Super Sliders

Super Sliders

16-25 year-olds can take part in a Super Sliders programme at one of three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, will be signified with a Bronze, Silver or Gold award. Platinum awards may be awarded to outstanding students, who have completed the three Super Sliders programmes, but are customarily awarded to retired or current athletes in recognition of their exceptional contributions to ice sports (bobsleigh, skeleton, luge) and/or the Ice Sports Foundation.

Each programme will help young people develop core character and wellness competencies along with the associated performance skills through the physical sport itself. The practical training sessions are supported by structured off-track workshops led by our athlete Ambassadors, all of whom have competed at the highest level of their discipline, whether bobsleigh or skeleton. Combining personal experience with exceptional communication skills, they are in a unique position to shape mindset and unlock potential.

Any young person can participate – regardless of ability, gender, background or UK location.

The Bronze programme is a one-day camp in which you will get the chance to try out skeleton and bobsleigh. The camp will take place at the country’s only bobsleigh and skeleton “push track” which is a one-of-a-kind facility, located at the University of Bath.

The track is used by Olympians and GB Teams and you can give it a go too! The Bronze Programme is divided into two part: “On Track” and “Off Track”. The Off Track workshops are Ambassador-Led and follow a specifically tailored programme focussing on personal development

ON TRACK

No experience is necessary as you embark on your first experience racing down the track. All you need is enthusiasm and a bit of bravery.

OFF TRACK

“Off’ the track you’ll participate in a sports science session which will give you the full mind to muscle experience.

Participants who successfully complete the Bronze programme will be awarded their Bronze Super Sliders Award and will be given a Super Sliders badge and certificate. Once you achieve Bronze, you’re ready to apply for further, more challenging, programmes.

After completing the Bronze programme, you can apply for the Silver programme. The Silver programme is a one-day camp at which you will improve upon skeleton and bobsleigh push-start skills and critically, focus on development as a team player, not simply an individual participant: From “me” to “we” ©.

The camp will take place at the UK’s only “push track” at the University of Bath. The Silver programme is divided into “On Track” physical sessions and “Off Track” Ambassador-led workshops.

ON TRACK

You will spend several days receiving world-class coaching on bobsleigh or skeleton from current GB athletes and/or GB coaches. This will enable you to hone the necessary push-start skills.

OFF TRACK

“Off” the track you’ll participate in a sports science session which will give you the full mind to muscle experience to begin developing your winner’s mindset.

Participants who successfully complete the Silver programme will be awarded their Silver Super Sliders badge and certificate. Once you achieve Silver, you’re ready to apply for further, more challenging, programmes.

Upon successfully completing the Silver programme, you will be invited to apply for the Gold programme, which is a residential camp in Europe in which you will be given an opportunity to ride a Skeleton down an Olympic Bobsleigh track. The Gold programme is also the entry-level programme for the Super Sliders Grant, which consists of funding for aspiring future ice sports athletes.

Those who have successfully completed the Gold programme, will be eligible to make an application for a Super Sliders Grant.
The Gold programme is divided into three sections “On Track”, “Off Track” and “Race Day”.

ON TRACK

You will spend several days receiving world-class coaching on riding a skeleton down the ice track from current GB athletes and/or GB coaches.

OFF TRACK

“Off’ the track you’ll participate in sports science sessions which will deepen your understanding of ice sports and the sports mindset.

CHALLENGE DAY

There will be a race on the final day, culminating in a prize giving and awards ceremony for not only the fastest race time, but for best team-player and the best “off track” student, among other categories.

Platinum level awards are presented to Ambassadors of Super Sliders. Ambassadors may be participants who have completed all three levels of training with the Super Sliders and have reached an outstanding result. Current or retired outstanding ice sports athletes may also be selected as an Ambassador in recognition of their exceptional contribution to ice sport and the Ice Sports Foundation.
